To say edibles have erupted on the market would be an understatement, with a cannabis-curious connoisseur now able to find everything from teas to pasta infusions at their local dispensary.

But if you’re the type who’s truly passionate about cuisine and experimenting with flavors, some cannabis-infused creations will just end up a bit better if you try making them at home – Such as today’s!

Whipped cream from a can or that you otherwise purchase from the store is pretty good, don’t get us wrong. But once you try these delicious, fluffy clouds of whipped cream you can make in the comfort of your own kitchen? You’ll probably never turn to that familiar blue-and-white tub ever again (cannabinoids included or no).

Today’s article is gonna be ideal for our readers with a serious sweet tooth (or maybe anyone looking to get a bit adventurous this upcoming Valentine’s day) – Let’s check out the deets!

How To Make Cannabis-Infused Whipped Cream

Let’s dive straight into our main recipe, and show you how to easily transform heavy whipping cream into cannabis-infused whipped cream! This recipe makes about two

Ingredients

  • Heavy whipping cream, 2 cp
  • Powdered sugar, 2 tbsp
  • Vanilla extract, 2 tsp
  • Your preferred strain of fully-decarbed cannabis; amount to vary by preference, but we recommend 1/4th cp as a starting point

Equipment

  • A hand or standing mixer (notes for using hand whisk included below)
  • A large mixing bowl
  • Saucepan
  • An airtight container
  • A measuring cup
  • Cheesecloth or coffee filters

Method

Step 1

Start by adding the heavy cream and your decarboxylated, ground-up weed to the saucepan over low heat (and yes, your cannabis bud MUST be decarboxylated; more on this later in the article).

Do not allow this mixture to bubble or boil – Keep a close watch on it and make sure the heat doesn’t spike. The last thing anyone wants is to ruin their infusion (and weed) so no wandering off!

This step should take 45m to 1h, but a longer infusion won’t cause any harm so long as the mixture doesn’t get too warm. Anyone anxious about this step can also use some of our other, more gentle infusion methods, such as a double boiler or with a slow cooker.

Step 2

Line your chosen container with either a cheesecloth or coffee filter and pour the mixture in, letting it slowly strain through the filter. You may squeeze the filter once nearing the end if you’d like – As with other infusions, this will release more of your cream (and cannabinoids) but can lend to a more defined “green” taste in the end product, so the choice is yours to make.

(And remember – your leftover herb can still be used for another infusion! Just repeat the above steps with the same batch of cannabis and you’ll get a second [albeit slightly weaker] batch of infused cream, ready to be whipped).

Step 3

Once the mixture has been strained and cooled to the touch, pour it into an airtight container. Place the container, mixing bowl, and whisk into the fridge and leave them overnight. However, if you do not have time to leave the mixture for that long, a few hours should suffice.

Do not skip this step! Keeping your cream – and bowl! – both at cold temperatures will enable the whipped cream to come together much more quickly than if using room temperature equipment and infused cream.

What proper stiff peaks should look like – This is when you know it’s time to stop!

Step 3

Pour the cream into your mixing bowl and whisk; if using an electric hand or stand mixer, make sure not to go beyond medium speed.

Once you notice that the mixture is starting to thicken slightly, add the vanilla extract and gradually add and beat in the powdered sugar; we recommend using a spatula or wooden spoon to help fold the sugar into the mix before turning back on your mixer, otherwise your kitchen may end up coated in white powder.

Make sure you do not over beat the mixture! Once your whipped cream begins forming stiff peaks as it mixes, it’s time to stop – There is a fine line between making whipped cream and making butter, and going any further will begin to cross that line (though if you’re wanting to make some infused butter, just keep going and you’ll get there soon enough).

And now your whipped cream is ready to enjoy! It can be stored in the refrigerator for about a day before it begins losing its freshness, so if making a batch be prepared to use it as quickly as possible (likely not a problem, given how tasty it can be)!

Other Methods

Mix In Cannabis Concentrate

If you don’t have the flower, you can also mix in cannabis concentrates such as oils or other edible forms. For this method simply cut out the first step, adding 2-3 teaspoons of the cannabis oil to the mixture while you add the vanilla extract.

Use Cannabis-Infused Sugar

It may be that you’ve made

, which you can substitute for both your powdered sugar and cannabis flower or concentrate. This method would also cut out the first step of decarbing & infusing your cannabis bud, but as granulated sugar is less sweet than powdered sugar, we recommend upping the amount to 3.5 tbsp total.

Make Vegan Cannabis Whipped Cream

Fortunately, if you are a vegan, you can still make cannabis-infused whipped cream by making some changes to the recipe. For this method, simply swap heavy for coconut cream (but don’t confuse it with cream of coconut).

You can create coconut cream by leaving canned coconut milk in the fridge overnight – Make sure to use the right canned coconut milk, though, as some brands will include emulsifiers and stabilizers that prevent the coconut milk from separating. After letting it sit overnight you should find the coconut cream forms on top of the milk, which you can spoon out to use.

How To Use A Whipped Cream Charger

Whipped cream chargers are a component of a cream whipper. The chargers are filled with compressed nitrous oxide which is responsible for pressing air into liquids.

Therefore, when you use this when making whipped cream, this process is what causes it to have its fluffy and airy texture; you’re essentially just filling a liquid with gas.

If you have a whipped cream charger at home you’ll likely want to follow your manufacturer’s instructions for use. Simply make your infusion, then add to your charger rather than manually whipping it by hand.

FAQs

How long does weed cream last before going bad?

When you’ve made cannabis-infused whipped cream at home, you’ll want to consume it within a day (whipped cream can be stabilized with the addition of gelatin or cornstarch, but we prefer the texture of the OG recipe).

What does weed cream pair well with?

There are many reasons why you may wish to add cannabis-infused whipped cream to some tasty desserts. On its own, cannabis cream can have a strong flavor, so it’s best paired with complementary and strong homemade edibles.

For an easy serving suggestion, we recommend pairing with a simple bowl of fresh fruit – Berries, apples, and anything tart will go great with your freshly made whipped topping.

This cream is the perfect way to top off more complex desserts and food items with an extra boost of flavor (and weed) – We’ve found it ideal for adding to even complex desserts, like cakes, pies, and even ice cream sundaes. However, you should get creative by experimenting and finding what suits your taste!

Here are are various desserts, day-to-day favorites, and sweet treats you can spice up with cannabis whipped cream; just a few ideas to fuel your inspiration!

  • Apple pie – A dollop on top lends both a creamy richness and a “green” zip to the already tangy taste of apples
  • Waffles – Weed whipped cream and chocolate syrup on a fluffy, crispy pillow of goodness? Yes please.
  • Cake – Yes, you can have your cake and get high from it too.
  • Pancakes – If using your whipped cream solely for pancakes (or waffles), try substituting the sugar with 2 tbsp of maple syrup
  • Coffee – You thought you enjoyed mochas before…
  • Fruit salad – Again, fresh fruit is one of the best ways to experience any whipped cream; doubly so for one with the green taste of a proper infusion
  • Shortcake – Layer angel cake with fresh strawberries and your homemade marijuana whipped cream and have a delightful afternoon tea
  • Pumpkin pie – Here again, the vegetal flavors of cannabis pair well with the spicy, warming notes of pumpkin pie flavor
  • Fruit tart – Just because your fruit has been cooked doesn’t make it any less tasty with your whipped cream
  • Mousse – A sinfully decadent mound of silky smooth chocolate, topped off with rich, inviting whipped cream and a few chocolate shavings? Oh yeah, this is a definite “treat yourself, you deserve it” moment

Why is decarbing weed important?

Decarbing weed essentially allows you to enjoy the psychoactive effects of cannabis; without this step, no infusion will get you high, no matter how much of it you eat.

Raw cannabis contains THCA, a non-psychoactive cannabinoid that is turned into the psychoactive cannabinoid THC through application of heat; this is why smoking weed will get you high, but eating raw marijuana will not.

Fortunately, decarboxylation is a straightforward process (unlike its complex name might suggest)! We have a full, detailed write up available in our article “

”, but as an overview:

First, measure and grind your cannabis flower into a fairly fine consistency, before spreading it over a lined baking sheet or foil.

Next, put the tray in the oven at 230°F and let it bake for 45 minutes to 1 hour, making sure to check on the bud frequently so it doesn’t burn and get ruined.

You’ll know the cannabis has been decarboxylated as it should have a soft golden-brown color – Once this is done, you can carry on with the rest of the steps of your recipe.

Wrapping Up

We hope this recipe has helped show you some of the versatility that weed can offer! Cannabis has become so popular in infusions and cooking, and making your own whipped cream at home can give you an easy, fun way to spice up any sweet cravings you might have.

Remember: Cannabis oils, flowers, concentrates and other infusions can be added to a variety of dishes to create some unique (and entertaining) flavor combinations – Make sure to experiment with a lot of different varieties and techniques, and if you’re looking for a bit of inspiration? Our article on “

” has loads of tips, ideas, and recipe links to explore.

Until next time – Happy munching!
