As the cannabis industry continues to blossom, more and more consumers are embracing weed products like
instead of alcohol as their preferred method of unwinding. Though, a problem arises upon closer examination of the cannabis-infused beverages available on the market: A THC-free, CBD-infused beverage may offer a sense of mellow, though it won’t offer any psychoactive effects.Sure, there are plenty of single-serving, 10mg options in the THC beverage world, though that potency—along with the fast-acting and intense nature of liquid edibles—is often the limit, or too much, for some consumers. For those looking to indulge in multiple beverages over the course of an evening, any further drinks at that dosage could result in the all-too-familiar experience of being too high.
Luckily,
has swooped in with a solution, providing low-dose THC-infused drinks, with 2.5mg of THC and 5mg of CBD in each, made explicitly for folks looking to wind down over an entire evening without the worry of over-indulging. The new cannabis drinks are the result of a partnership between famed DJ Diplo, professional skateboarder Rob Dyrdek, Leisuretown, and cannabis supply chain company HERBL. The new drinks are launching soon in California, according to a .“The growing cannabis beverage category has become increasingly popular, and I am completely in favor of the optimization that Leisuretown offers,” Dyrdek shared. “The seltzers are a tasty drink that don’t wreck my day, offering microdoses of THC that allow consumers to let loose while staying in control of their cannabis experiences.”
Leisuretown President and Founder Doug Walker also shared his excitement surrounding the new partnership. As Diplo and Dyrdek have a combined 14 million followers across social media, and starting with California consumers who are especially keen on cannabis beverages, he expressed his excitement in introducing a wider audience to Leisuretown.
Cannabis Seltzers: A Better Way to Party
In an email to High There, Walker expanded on his aim in creating the new product:
“Long story short, I wanted to create a sessionable cannabis beverage where you could drink multiple and still function, like a standard beer,” Walker said. “I believe we don’t drink one beer to get drunk, so why would we drink one drink to get high? I also left brewing because I wanted something healthier than alcohol. I thought we could create just as social and fun with cannabis, and we did!”
Diplo told Forbes he sees the new Leisuretown offering as something “new and different,” adding that “digs” the low-dose weed drinks for this very reason:
“I can drink a few and just chill,” he said, adding that cannabis drinks “just make everything feel a bit more golden.”
Walker also described the experience consumers can expect when trying out the new beverage for the first time, combining the “crisp, bubbly and delicious nature of seltzers with the calming effects of cannabis,” and resulting in a “sessionable beverage that lets you function at your very best.”
The new beverage offering builds upon another legacy product of the brand, a hemp-infused beverage featuring 25mg of CBD. The new, THC-infused beverages will come in three flavors: Cherry Vanilla, Ginger Berry and Yuzu Lime.
It looks as though Walker and Leisuretown might be ahead of the curve, as a report published earlier this year by
anticipates the global cannabis beverage market will grow from $503.58 million in 2020 to just under $3 billion by 2028, a CAGR of 24.5 percent for the forecast period of 2021-2028.Leisuretown is joined by other established brands, like Jones Soda and Pabst, in embracing the cannabis drink boom, and it’s likely more beverage brands outside of the cannabis space will continue to venture into this previously uncharted territory.
Hopefully, Walker and Leisuretown set a new precedent to ensure consumers have plentiful options when they want to unwind throughout the evening.
