Why do prospective dates say “Can I buy you a drink?”, and not “Let me roll you a joint and buy you some tacos”?

While cannabis is a great tool for enhancing experiences and sparking connection, it’s not a one-stop inhibition-crusher like alcohol is, and it doesn’t bring the same well-worn dating scripts into the picture. Enter High There! The friendly folks blazing trails and other things in the world of cannabis dating. Our Official Dosed Dating Guide is here just in time for Valentine’s Day, with tips from everything from scoring a hot date, to strains to bring into the bedroom.

to get rolling.

Popping the Question

Suppose you’ve met a civilian IRL and you’re not sure how they feel about cannabis. Are you nervous to ask? Don’t be! The more we normalize cannabis as a part of dating, the easier it will be for your adorable stoner grandkids. Remember, you don’t have to ask “What’s your take on cannabis, now and forever?”. You can work it into casual conversation. For example, if you’re planning a first meeting, you can casually pop the question into a text about the supplies you’re bringing. Like “Hey, I’ve got snacks and LaCroix covered, can I interest you in a joint of my homegrown Mango Haze as well?”
With a little pre-planning, you can also ask while already on your date. It’s an easy follow-up to typical first date questions like “What do you do for fun?”. If they express interest, offer up your beautifully pre-crafted joint. This gesture shows forethought on your part, and is a nice token for them to take home even if they’re not keen for green at that moment. Bonus: they’ll have such warm fuzzy thoughts about you when they’re at home later, tokin’ their token (get it?).

Less is more: start low and go slow.

You might not have a nice time if you get turbo high right before, or during, a date— especially if you’re still getting to know each other. Besides the paranoia this can evoke, some people find it off-putting or disrespectful for a date to show up ripped.
In the event you’re bringing cannabis to share on a date, maybe opt for a lower THC, or more balanced strain featuring CBD, CBG and CBN to help balance out any zoomy buzzy sensations. Leave some time for effects to set in before you start another joint, vape or edible. It can be especially easy to lose track of your intoxication while you’re dealing with the nerves and adrenaline of a date with a new person.

Getting down to business

Cannabis has a lot of potential to bring attentiveness, sensuality and creativity to the bedroom. Research suggests that cannabis especially can improve women’s experience of sex, reporting more satisfying and frequent orgasms as well as less discomfort. Cannabis can also help relax our perception of time, which can be great for disinhibiting those who feel like they can’t “get the job done” fast enough.
