Opposites May Attract, but They Don’t Stick Together

Today’s dating platform has changed in a multitude of ways. In some cases, it’s become easier with things like technology, apps, etc., In other ways, it’s become harder as people have busy schedules often working several jobs and going to school. In addition to reaching a level of meeting someone you’ve got chemistry with, you hope they’re into the same activities as you are. If they aren’t, well you can guess in most situations, the connection eventually dissolves. So how do you meet someone, that enjoys the same things as you? Do the research and what you’ll see is it’s not all that complicated.

Per an article found on Psychology Today, people are more likely to be involved with others who are like themselves. Here’s what they had to say “Studies have found that people are more liable to be attracted to and pursue romantic relationships with individuals who are more like themselves across a broad range of personal characteristics, including age, religion, political orientation, and certain aspects of intelligence.” In theory, you may agree. But, the proof is in the pudding or bud if you’re a “High There” follower. If you’re dating someone who isn’t into the same things as you, then it could become a problem. Unless your significant other is okay with the 420 lifestyles, in which case this blog may seem redundant.

Nonetheless, you may agree, you’ll be happier without anyone pressuring a change to take place. Besides being yourself, who wouldn’t admit wanting to share the same recreational space without someone they liked? Or possibly more? If you find yourself dating someone who isn’t into the same activities or has an entirely different set of life rules, it can and most likely will present a problem.

The best way to stay with a long-term relationship is to find someone who’s compatible. If that person isn’t into ‘Flower Power’ and you are, eventually they may want you to stop indulging. Look for someone who is comfortable with and who shares the same interests. While we can’t guarantee the longevity of your connection with one another, we can tell you it’s much better following this cliché “Don’t Hate. Participate!” when your company is willing rather than if they’re not.

Don’t waste your time trying to change the other person. Find the one who can light your fire instead. (or at least hand you the lighter with a smile).
