Looking to grow your own? It can be done if you have the time, the space and live in a state that will permit you to get gardening.

Before you decide to exercise your green thumb, you will need to make one very important decision. If you are considering growing for the first time, you have taken the first step on the road to becoming a true cannabis connoisseur.   Will you be raising your plants from seeds or by using cuttings, usually referred to as clones? Both ways come with their own pros and cons, and choosing the right option for you can be the difference between a successful smoke and a wet blunt.

Growing from Clones

A clone is a cutting from a mature cannabis plant, which can be replanted and raised to produce buds. Growing from clones can be more difficult than growing a seed from scratch. The condition of the clone for example, will only be as good as the plant it is cut from.

Another major problem with using clones is that they can be hard to find. You will need access to a mature mother plant and, of course, permission to take a cutting. Even if you can get a decent enough clone to plant, you will be hard pressed to know exactly what kind of strain you will be getting. You can try your luck with purchasing clones online, but they are delicate creatures that may not do well being shipped thousands of miles.

The benefit of using a clone however is that it may already be farther along in development than a seed would be, and you can hope for a quicker harvest.

In addition, most people find that they really enjoying the experience of learning to raise a cannabis plant from its earliest stages. It’s a bit like experiencing a birth, and you can be proud of your adult plant once it flowers knowing that you grew it from seed on your own.

Growing From Buds

Growing from buds takes the guesswork out of growing your green. Buy from a reputable seed bank, and you will know what you are getting in terms of strain. You can even spend you dollar on specially feminized cannabis seeds meaning you can guarantee more great buds to come. Seeds are also at the very beginning of their life, meaning you will get a longer lasting plant than you would from a clone.

Auto-flowering seeds are expertly crossbred to give you a great harvest in a minimal space of time. This means that these seeds have been exposed to more of the light that they need to bloom, meaning they will bloom in as little as two to four weeks.

Which One Will Work Best For Me?

The trend switches back and forth between growing from seeds and growing from bud. To be honest, both have their advantages and disadvantages, so choosing what works for you will be down to your own wants and desires.
