High There! I want to give a huge thanks to the High There community and staff for such a warm welcome. I recently took over as the Editor in Chief of this platform. I’ve been in the cannabis space since 2011, and I have a tenacity for advocacy, education and furthering the mainstream acceptance of the plant.

My road to High There has been an exciting one, and the mission of this organization is something that has been near and dear to my heart for many years. Read along to learn a little about my experience in cannabis journalism, as well as some exciting new content and columns we’ve begun covering.

You could say that when I first joined the cannabis industry, it was nothing short of a happy accident.

The Journey to High There

During my college years I accepted an internship at a local weekly paper, IE Weekly. To my pleasant surprise, the editorial team was also publishing a national cannabis publication called CULTURE

Back then, I was a young adult and recreational stoner who thought medical cannabis was a facade – a way for stoners to get our hands on legal cannabis. Growing up in California, it’s no surprise I had friends who had medical cards. We’d drive out to L.A., and I’d wait patiently in the car for my friends while they visited the medical cannabis dispensary. They’d return with more cannabis-infused goods than I even knew existed.

Once I began working in cannabis journalism, I learned very quickly that medical cannabis was not a facade – I was flat-out wrong. I’ve witnessed countless ways of how cannabis saves and improves lives every day.

Early on during my internship, I proofread a story for CULTURE about a young boy named

. Our team had interviewed Jayden’s dad, Jason. Jason bravely shared about his son’s journey with cannabidiol (CBD), with Jayden being the first child who was given CBD on national television. Jayden and his dad remain celebrated pioneers of the medical cannabis movement to this day.

From there, my passion for cannabis advocacy and normalization was truly born. Through countless celebrity interviews, talks with advocates on the frontlines, as well as my personal experience securing safe, medical cannabis for some of my family members, the last decade-plus has been awe-inspiring.

Since my time at CULTURE, I served as the Editor-in-Chief of the iconic High Times Magazine, proudly carrying a torch of cannabis education and advocacy that was empowering and humbling, to say the very least. And now I’m entrusted with the privilege of bringing engaging content to the High There community.
